Introduction

The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Micropigmentation is an advanced qualification that has been specifically designed for beauty therapists.

This qualification is based on beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS). This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications.

Entry onto this qualification must be via previous attainment of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline prior to undertaking this qualification. Your centre will have ensured that you have the required knowledge, understanding and skills to enrol and successfully achieve this qualification.

Why is this qualification most suitable?

This qualification is the only Level 4 qualification offered by VTCT in Micropigmentation. The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Micropigmentation is about using micropigmentation, a form of cosmetic tattooing to create make-up effects to enhance facial features. This qualification requires learners to develop skills to carry out micropigmentation treatments. This qualification allows learners to gather evidence in a realistic working environment or real working environment without the need for fee paying clients.

What does this qualification cover?
This qualification has been specifically designed for the 18+ age groups, builds on existing knowledge and understanding of therapy skills and will develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare learners for employment. Learners will have their skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.

This qualification will require research; it includes the skills involved in providing the skills involved in providing a thorough consultation with the client to formulate a specific course of treatment, tailored to suit individual client needs, use micropigmentation techniques and manage the health, safety and security of the salon. – the full list of units is presented in the learner Record of Assessment book (ROA) (specification). Client care and consultation

This unit will enable learners to develop their knowledge of the principles and practices of nonmedical aesthetic therapies.
Learners will develop their understanding of this emerging profession by inquiring into the history, safety, legal, insurance and professional body influences of the industry.
They will summarise methods and processes of ensuring safety and wellbeing and conforming to health and safety standards.

Learners will also appraise contra-actions, hygiene and medical emergency processes.

Learners will begin to develop an understanding of how to access research materials relevant to their subject area whilst at the same time developing skills and understanding of how to collate information for evidence based practice within the non-medical aesthetic industry.

Overview
This unit will enable learners to develop their knowledge of the advanced consultation techniques for non-medical aesthetic therapies.

This unit is about understanding the principles of client care when providing professional consultations for advanced non-medical aesthetic treatments. Learners will develop the knowledge and skills required to prepare for and undertake detailed consultations, demonstrating an understanding of the need for client consent, how to work within the limit of own competence, the requirement of always conducting one’s own consultation and the necessity of allowing time for a ‘cooling off’ period prior to treatment.

Learners will develop an understanding of the importance of considering the clients psychological needs when consulting for advanced therapies, whilst further developing their communication skills and know how to identify and advise on suitable treatment options and communicate realistic and appropriate treatment objectives.

Anatomy and physiology for microblading techniques

Overview

Overview
This unit is about advanced skin analysis techniques. It will enable learners to enhance their
understanding of skin, developing their comprehension of the facial analysis procedure and advance
their understanding of the ageing process on the ageing process and its effects on the skin. A more
thorough understanding will enable learners to formulate a detailed treatment plan to address the
client’s specific and individual needs, ensuring health, safety and unique requirements are met.

Health and safety in the salon

Overview
The aim of this unit is to develop the learners’ underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical
skills to enable them to provide a professional tattoo fading or removal treatment. Learners will
know how to recognise different tattoo types and identify those clients suitable for treatment, at the
same time as developing an understanding of the lasers and wavelengths used for the treatment of
different ink pigments alongside other factors that may affect the rate of tattoo clearance.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this unit, learners will:

LO2 Understand how to provide treatments to remove or fade tattoos

Management of health, safety and security in the salon

Through this unit you will develop your management skills around the implementation and management of health, safety and security practices in your salon.

You will evaluate the reliability and effectiveness of risk assessments, justify and monitor newly implemented and existing health, safety and security practices, comply with health and safety legislation and regulations, and manage the improvements through monitoring staff.
